http://www.vancouversun.com/entertainment/Hornby+Island+folk+punk+musician+dies+suddenly+foul+play+ruled/2238245/story.htmlMany of you will have already heard this, for our community of poets and musicians communicates faster than C.N.N. ever could.
TemPeST Grace Gale, stage name Pest, was found in the water near her home on Hornby Island. Circumstances are suspicious, and the police investigating the possibility of murder. If this is so, I hear, it will be the first murder in the history of the island's community.
We're a close-knit subculture, with a protect-your-own mentality. Whenever one of us falls, a continent mourns, and beyond. I just don't know what will happen to my dear friends if foul play is confirmed... nor the perpetrator. Never stand down a slam poet.
Stories are coming in from loved ones about how lovely and important she was: I hear she enjoyed every moment of life to it's fullest; I hear she was a cornerstone of the artistic community, bringing richer culture to the people of the island. As for me, I remember her for doing some of the best Tom Waits covering I've ever heard. I don't think that legacy would displease her.
